Section B:
“Joining Process”
Ruth Paula Velasco Jambalos is my neighbor and also my second cousin. I decided to choose her as the subject of my case study because she is always in our house playing together with my two (2) siblings. As I observe, this child is timid and shy, so as a counselor my role is to guide and look for the possible reason why the child behave like that and also to help this child to develop or conquer these negative characteristics that she had.
I’m expecting to see also some other problems that may arise as the observation starts and as the observation ends, and if there is a problem in the behavior of the child, I’m expecting to see some changes and development on the child.

Section C:
“Presenting the problem”
As I conduct my observation to Ruth Paula I approach her mother and ask something about the behavior of her daughter and if there is a problem regarding about the behavior of Paula. According to Mrs. Theresa (mother of the child), Paula is sometimes shy that’s why she is timid, she is also sensitive, she wants to get what she wanted and “gusto niya lage siyang nakakalamang”, her mother said. Why do you think Paula behave like that? I added. I think it is hereditary, because her father is also sensitive like Paula and also like Paula I’m also shy. And one thing I notice she has inferiority complex. But one thing I like most to my daughter is she is competent as what I observe, she is also sweet, kind and humble.
I also consult the teacher of Paula about the behavior that the mother of the child stated. She noticed it too sometimes, the teacher said. But as I observe she tries not to show it, because sometimes she is active in participating in our activities and she is very friendly, the teacher added.

D.4 – Personality dynamics for Self-Mastery
As I interview Ruth Paula as part of my observation, I let the child described herself in a way that she is telling a story at first she is not speaking but later on she said… I’m quite shy and naughty, the child said as she described herself. But I’m kind, she added. She also said that, she is fun playing together with her sister named Cha-cha. “I’m beautiful like her”, she said (pointing her finger to her sister). I can dance and sing. I’m dancing together with my cousins. I like playing alone but sometimes I’m playing together with my cousins and friends outside.

D.5 – Personality dynamics for Relationship

            Teacher
As I ask the teacher about her relationship, the teacher said that she treat Paula as her daughter. Paula is sweet and kind girl but she is quiet inside the classroom and she wants to be in silent every time she enters the room that’s why I felt hard dealing with her. But one thing that I like to her, whenever we will be having our activity, she participate and join her classmates. She is friendly I know, but her timidity is the problem.

            Parents
Ruth Paula and her parents have good relationship. Her parents spend time together with their children that’s why they established good relationship. Paula is obedient child. She always obeys and follows what her mother told to her that’s why Paula receives a lot of care in their house and also because she is the youngest, her mother said. My brother husband treats her as a baby. She always gets what she wanted.

D.6 – Personality dynamics for Action
The activity that the child does is the activities that the child usually does. The child is fun of playing. She can dance and sing. She can eat alone without the help of her parents. She can take a bath with her own. She can also dress herself. Her parents let her do whatever he wanted. The child can go outside and buy something she needed or wanted.

Section E:

“Theoretical Framework”

Narrative Description:
Learning is a long process and through learning, knowledge is accumulated. Like knowledge, through learning, behaviour also is accumulated and learned.
In the case of Paula, age 6yrs. Old, she is in the stage of learning from others through observing others’ behavior, attitudes, and outcomes of that behavior. This behavior is learned observationally through modelling. And according to the theory of Adler which is the social learning theory, this theory explains that the social learning theory is in between the cognitive, behavioral and environmental influences.
Behavior is imitated and modelled, that’s why in the case of Paula, the reason why the child is timid, shy, and lacking of self-confidence and sensitive, is because she sees it and observed to her parents, where the parents are the one who is responsible for the construction of the behavior of the child.
Learning is a process which bahavior is both modified and changed through experience and training. In this sense, learning refers not only to the result or to the outcome that is observable to you but also to the experiences that you learn and receive and to the things you learned and you think that is good to you.
There are things that we need to consider especially in modelling child’s behavior. And one thing is that we need to give the child good, stable and acceptable environment, because environment really affects the child. If a child lives in a unstable and unacceptable environment, his/her personality including the behavior will be maladjusted. Like in the case of Paula, the reason why she developed those characteristics and why those problems arose is because of her unacceptable environment. It is the environment that must be changed, so give the child acceptable environment that will be a reason for the child to have positive behaviors.

Section F:
" Prognosis"

Paula is the youngest in the family. That is why she is spoiled, like what the theory of Alfred Adler stated, and can get easily what she wanted resulting to be sensitive. She always want to have attention from her parents, she always want to praise because if not, she is self-pitying and developing an inferiority complex resulting to be competitive and wants to compete others especially to her sister.

As my observation go on to process, I gather information about the child’s problem most especially to the problem in the behaviour of the child. I find this problem as an easy or not so hard to solve problems. As I observed, this child can solve her own problem with help and guidance of her parents as the time goes by.  Like the theory of Erich Fromm, which is the Socio-analytic theory, I also believe that there is a hope because an individual has the capacity to solve his/her own problems.
Children have so many characteristics, whether it is negative or positive, children can develop and improve it. We have something to do with it, because we are the first which is mostly concern to them. We need not only to guide them but also to observe and be an example to them.

Section G:
Therapeutic Plans
G.1 Knowledge Building
At the end of the case study the client child must build knowledge about cognitive development that allows them or the child to be much more aware of others.

Section J:
Therapeutic Results
To develop the communication skills of the child in communicating to others is the goal of the activity that is being presented in the child in my case study.
In the case study, the development or the progress in the child is seen. The awareness of the child among others is developing resulting to have a good relationship and interaction between them. If this will continue to happen, the child may build good communication skills and good relationship and also built a personality with good behaviour among others will possibly happen.
She shows good communication skills and the child interact to other peers in doing the activities.

Section K:
Summary, Conclusions, and Recommendation
Summary
This case study is all about to the child name Ruth Paula V. Jambalos who has a problem and difficulty in socializing and interacting with others which is the main concern of the case study. Paula has different characteristics and one of those is she is sensitive which is another problem.
As I gathered information about the child, I ask her parents first and then consult the child, but in order for the therapist to gain the trust of a child, I as a therapist and an observer build and established a good friendly relationship to the child.
The parent and the teacher are the one who presented the problem. It follows with the Time line, Sociogram, and Genogram that really help in observing and knowing the child deeper. Then, followed with the Personality dynamics for self mastery, relationship, and action which also help for the better understanding of the child. The case study also include the therapeutic framework which is all about how to solve the problem, therapeutic plans, therapeutic intervention, therapeutic progress to know if there’s a development in the child and lastly the therapeutic results which I’m expecting to have.

Conclusion
I therefore conclude that the child is capable of interacting and communicating with others. It only depends on how the child shows it and also depends on the people around her. I also conclude that as a child she needs to adjust in her new environment because, she is in the stage of adjustment. This case study really helps the child to overcome her peers and those activities that I give will continuously enriched the child’s behaviour and established good personality to the child.

Recommendation
I recommend that the activities that I conduct to the child will continuously established and done by the child to continue the development and see the progress in the child.
I also recommend that the parent should guide their child and practice their child more on communicating and interacting to others.

Section L:
Implications to Educational Assessment of Young Children
With the case study that I conducted, which require observation in the child, I realize that it really helps in assessing young children. Although, it is a long process but it really helps, especially in knowing and understanding different kinds of behaviour that the child have. It also helps me, as the therapist in knowing how to handle and how to deal with the child having a hard time interacting with others into different situation. And it made me realizes that there is a hope for each individual to develop and change their maladaptive behaviour into a good behaviour that they have.
This case study I conducted make me also a better person which also seen in the child as the case study ends, because as a child also, I also develop patience in observing and guiding the child, which made me happy.

HERSHEY'S THERAPY
personal therapy
View of Human Nature
The person or a child is the product of his environment and behavior . A child is sensitive and has capable of learning. They need encouragement, guidance and support from his parents and environment. The environment, experiences, behavior and beliefs help the young children to grow up as sensitive human.

THREE HERSHEY'S PATTERNS
  • Outcomes
  • Behaviors
  • Environment

Maladaptive Behavior

The relationship of the person to their environment can create negative behavior because of rejection, neglectful without support, guidance of environment. It can result unloving environment, lack of self responsibility, decreasing self achievements and become careless. Because of the effect of the environment the behavior of the person will be changed into dangerous and unacceptable behavior like defiant aggressive, bully, jealous and other negative behavior. Decreasing of self-esteem, lack of acceptance by the environment and maybe a  bad person.

But if the relationship of the person to thier environment is good, because of adequate support and guidance to the person, full engouragement and other it can result loving environment, and result to a good person.

Goals of the therapy

To create an acceptable environment with appropriate response, encouragement, free from choices, safe for everybody, and have responsibility to provide the needs of a sensitive human.

Function of the therapist

To guide the person or client in to acceptable behavior with a good environment and to reinforce the good behavior and to diminish the bad behavior.

Techniques in Teaching

  •    Reinforcement
  •    Role playing
  •    Encouragement
  •    Games
